The 1961 album, “Ezz-Thetics”, by the George Russell Sextet, remains a watermark in jazz exploration. The lineup includes Don Ellis on trumpet, Dave Baker on trombone, Eric Dolphy on alto saxophone and bass clarinet, Steve Swallow on bass, Joe Hunt on drums, and George Russell on piano. The track featured in this video, “Round Midnight” (a Monk-Williams composition), is a stirring example of the brilliance of Eric Dolphy. Eric would be dead a mere three years later at the age of 36.
